WELCOME TO
THE AUCKLAND UNIVERSITY LAW STUDENTS’ SOCIETY
Enriching your Auckland Law School experience since 1971…
Since its establishment in 1971, The Auckland University Law Students’ Society has existed to enrich your law school experience. Together, we aim to make your time here as rewarding, enjoyable and memorable as possible by connecting you to your peers and promoting your growth and well-being through a range of unique events and initiatives.
Education
AULSS plays an important role in ensuring that our members receive sufficient and comprehensive support in their academic endeavours. Throughout the year, AULSS hosts a number of events and educational initiatives such as our Recruitment Season Events, Study Series and Mentorship Programs.
We play an integral role in advocating on behalf of student’s educational needs to the Faculty and the wider legal community to ensure students are receiving comprehensive and dynamic legal education.
Competitions
Legal competitions are a great way to enrich your Law School experience. Our competitions provide students with the opportunity to learn the skills you will need in practice and apply the law in a practical, dynamic and challenging environment. Winners of these competitions will go on to the New Zealand Law Students’ Association annual conference to compete against the top competitors in the country - to see who will take home the national championship for the respective competitions.
Social
Our Social Officers are responsible for designing and delivering the vibrant social calendar of the Auckland University Law Students' Society. From concept to clean-up, we plan and host the events that bring law students together beyond the lecture theatre.
AULSS social events include much-loved traditions such as Cocktail Night, Steins, and Quiz Nights, alongside a few joint events with other clubs and faculties. Each event is carefully curated to be inclusive, accessible, and memorable, strengthening the sense of community that defines AULSS and offering a well-earned break from the books.
This year, we are especially excited to expand our reach beyond campus. For the first time, AULSS will be collaborating with law student societies from fellow universities, creating new opportunities for connection, camaraderie, and a broader law school network.
Sports
Exercising and playing sports are among the best ways to balance the pressures of Law School. It clears your head, gets the endorphins going, and gives you a chance to step away from readings and assignments for a while. Whether you’re keen to compete, play socially, or simply support the Law Lions, there are plenty of ways to get involved. No matter your experience or skill level, there is something for everyone.
Sports has an exciting lineup of events which you can find out more about below!
Media
Verbatim is our yearly student publication written by Auckland Law Students, for Auckland Law Students. We are always looking for contributors who are ready to share their experience and commentary on the funny, pressing and important aspects of the Law School life - give us a shout if this sounds like a bit of you!
