Social Life

Social Officers

Our Social Officers are responsible for designing and delivering the vibrant social calendar of the Auckland University Law Students' Society. From concept to clean-up, we plan and host the events that bring law students together beyond the lecture theatre.

Their portfolio includes much-loved traditions such as Cocktail Night, Steins, and Quiz Nights, alongside a few joint events with other clubs and faculties. Each event is carefully curated to be inclusive, accessible, and memorable, strengthening the sense of community that defines AULSS and offering a well-earned break from the books.

This year, we are especially excited to expand our reach beyond campus. For the first time, AULSS will be collaborating with law student societies from fellow universities, creating new opportunities for connection, camaraderie, and a broader law school network.

STEINS

Steins are a cornerstone of the AULSS social calendar and a highlight of the law school experience. With creative dress themes, exclusive venues, and great drink deals, they are the perfect opportunity to swap casebooks for costumes and celebrate with fellow students in a relaxed, high-energy setting. Keep an eye out for early-bird ticket discounts - these are nights you will not want to miss!

PART II LAW CAMP

Part II Law Camp is a highlight of the year, and often the antidote to what can be a long (and at times isolating) degree. Held this year during the Semester One mid-semester break at Houghtons Bush Camp in Muriwai, the camp is designed to foster the friendships that make law school not only manageable, but memorable.

Senior students attend as leaders, creating valuable opportunities for inter-year connection and mentorship that can be difficult to build during the academic year without shared classes. Alongside the daytime activities and team challenges, the three-day affair also includes a lively evening social event: a chance to unwind, celebrate, and get to know your cohort in a relaxed and enjoyable setting.

COCKTAIL NIGHT

Cocktail Night is one of the most refined events on the AULSS calendar. Held this year at the end of April following the Semester One mid-semester break, the evening offers a sophisticated setting for members and their partners to dress up and enjoy a polished, elegant atmosphere.

With an intimate guest list, Cocktail Night provides excellent opportunities to socialise and network with partners from a range of firms - all while celebrating the semester in a classy manner.

LAW BALL

Law Ball is the flagship event of the AULSS calendar - our biggest and most anticipated night of the year. The dedicated Ball Committee works tirelessly to deliver an unforgettable evening, complete with exceptional catering, premium drinks, and live music that keeps the dance floor full.

From the photobooth to the final song, Law Ball is a celebration of the year in true style. Tickets are highly sought after and consistently sell quickly, so be ready when they are released.

LEAVERS DINNER

As the year draws to a close, AULSS hosts the Leavers’ Dinner - a special evening for our final-year students. It is an opportunity to gather with both the classmates and lecturers who have shaped their time at Auckland Law School, reflecting on the years spent studying, growing, and (more than occasionally) living in the library.

A fitting and memorable way to mark the end of the law school chapter, Leavers Dinner is an occasion to celebrate how far our graduates have come - together.
